Mussoorie is a famous hill station of India. It is situated in Dehradun district in Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is around 35 kms. from the state capital Dehradun and around 290 kms. from the national capital New Delhi.

Mussoorie is a famous hill station in India. There are many tourist attractions in Mussoorie. A large number of domestic as well as foreign tourists visit here every year.  

 If we talk about its economy it is largely dependent on tourism. Apart from tourism, educational institutions also play a major role as contributor to its economy.

Places to visit in Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a famous hill station of India. It has many popular tourists spots. Some of them are The Mall road, Gun hill, Lal Tibba, Lake Mist, Kempty falls, Clouds end, Nag Tibba trek, Benog wildlife sanctuary, Company Garden, Jwala Devi temple, Bhatta falls, Jharipani falls, Happy valley, Mussoorie lake, Jabarkhet nature reserve, Mossy falls, White water rafting in Mussoorie, etc.

The Mall Road, Mussoorie

The Mall road is situated in the heart of the city.It is one of the major tourist attractions of Mussoorie. The Mall road is famous for shops situated on the both sides of road. One can reach here either by rickshaw or by foot from bus stand.

Gun Hill

Gun hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie located at a height of 2024 meters. It is located 400 feet above the Mall road. From Gun hill, Doon valley and beautiful Himalayan range can be seen. Ropeway to Gunhill is a major tourist attraction especially for the photographers.

Lal Tibba

It is situated around 6 km. away from Mussoorie on the top of depot hill in Landour. Since it is the highest point in the area it has stunning viewpoints in the region.

Lake Mist

Lake Mist is one of the most beautiful destinations in the “Queen of Hills” Mussoorie. It falls on the way to Kempty falls. The most beautiful thing of this lake is its being the less crowded, where one can enjoy the calmness of nature.

Kempty falls

Kempty falls is a waterfall in the Ramgaon in the Tehri garhwal district of Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is around 13 kms. away on Chakrata road  from Mussoorie and around 45 kms. away from Dehradun. It is located at 1364 meters above sea level.

Kempty falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Uttarakhand. It is famous as a picnic destination among tourists. It looks stunning as a waterfall.

Clouds end

Clouds end is a place where peace can be find easily in Oak and Deodar forests, located at around 7 kms. from Mussoorie city. It is famous for pleasant scenic views of hills. Clouds end is surrounded by Oak and Deodar forests. One can reach here by hiring Jeep or taxi. The nearest railway station from here is Dehradun railway station.

Nag Tibba Trek

Nag Tibba Trek is also known as ‘Mountain of the Serpent”. It is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas. It is the highest peak in the Garhwal Himalayas. The local people offer prayers to the snake god, because they are under the belief that the snake god will protect their cattle from snake bites. The trekkers can view various peaks like Bandarpunchh peak, the Gangotri group of peak, Doon valley, the snow peaks of Chanabang, Kedarnath peak in the north from the Nag Tibba.

Benog wildlife sanctuary

It is a part of Rajaji  national park and is located around 11 km. from library point in Mussoorie. It is surrounded by Pine and Cedar trees and many medicinal plants. It is developed as a bird heaven.

Company Garden

Company garden is one of the famous tourist spots in Mussoorie. It is around 3 km. away from the Mall. It is a collection of beautiful flowers and is a beautiful picnic spot for tourists.

Jwala Devi temple

 It is one of the popular tourist attractions of Mussoorie. Jwala devi temple or Jwala ji temple is situated on the top of the hill. It is a temple of goddess Durga.

 Bhatta falls

Bhatta falls is a popular tourist spot in Mussoorie. It is a natural stream of water flowing down the hills. There is a pond at the bottom, where people enjoy bathing and swimming. It is situated around 7 km. away from main Mussoorie city on the Mussoorie –Dehradun road near Bhatta village.

Mussoorie lake

Mussoorie lake is a perfect picnic spot near Mussoorie. It is situated 6 km. before Mussoorie at Dhobighat on Dehradun- Mussoorie road. It is a beautiful place for picnic and boating. A large number of visitors visit this place every year. Tourists can reach Dhobi ghat by hiring a taxi or by taking a bus from Mussoorie or Dehradun. From there it is situated just at walking distance.

Jharipani falls

Jharipani falls is other popular tourist spot in Mussoorie. It is situated around 9 km. away from Mussoorie on Mussoorie –Jharipani  road. It is an ideal place for picnicking. It is in the vicinity of famous boarding schools like Oak grove, St. George’s and Wynberg Allen. Jharipani falls can be easily reached by hiring bus or auto-rickshaw upto  Jharipani village and from there they can trek down on foot for around 1.5 km.

Happy valley

Happy valley is also known as mini Tibet. It lies on the western end of Library point. It is very popular for gardens, temples and the estates. It is exceptionally popular for IAS Academy and Tibetan temples. The best time to visit Happy valley is the month of March and June.

Jabarkhet nature reserve

It is situated at Mussoorie -Dhanolty road, around 15 km. away from the heart of Mussoorie. It is the first privately owned and operated wildlife sanctuary in Uttarakhand. It has an exceptional variety of rare plants, animals, mammals, trees and birds.

Mossy falls

Mossy falls is situated at a distance of 7 kms. from the city on the Bala Hisar road. It is a horsetail waterfall and is surrounded by mosses. It is very popular tourist spot. It is close to a forest and so serves as a place for camping. During Mansoon season its beauty doubles up and looks exciting. Tourists visit here throughout the year but the ideal time to visit Mossy falls is during Monsoons and Winters. It can be reached by hiring the local cabs and buses from Mussoorie.

How to reach Mussoorie

Mussoorie is well connected by air, rail and road. A nearby airport is Jolly grant, which is in Dehradun is around 60 km. away from the city.

The nearest railway station from Mussoorie is in Dehradun. Mussoorie is connected by road to Delhi and many other major cities. There are also facilities of taxis and buses available within the city.

What time to visit  Mussoorie

The weather of Mussoorie remains warm and wet during Summer. Whereas the weather during winter is cool and partly cloudy. The weather during April to May is warm and dry, which leads to rainfall from mid of June.

 June to September is considered as the best time to visit Mussoorie for enjoying the weather.

 Food available in Mussoorie
