Nainital is a famous hill station in Indian state of Uttrakhand. It is located at a distance of 285 km. from the state capital Dehradun and 345 km. away from the national capital new Delhi. It is situated at a height of 2084 meters  above the sea level. It is set around the Nainital lake in a valley. Nainital is surrounded by seven different hills. They are Ayarpata, Deopata, Naina, Alma, Handi-Bandi, Sher-ka-Danda, Lariya- Kanta. It is the judicial capital of Uttrakhand and the high court of the state being situated here.

Nainital is a beautiful hill station of India. It is famous for the Naini lake. In Naini lake boating is a favourite activity of tourists, Whereas trekking in the dense forested mountains is another popular activity.

Naini lake

Naini lake is also known as Nainital lake. It is a beautiful natural lake in the Kumaon  region. It is surrounded by seven peaks. The lake is divided into two parts, the northern part is called Mallital and the southern part is called Tallital. Boating is a favourite activity in the lake. There is a temple called Naina devi temple is situated near this lake.

Mall road, Nainital

Mall road runs parallel to Naini lake. It is a food, shopping and cultural centre of Nainital. Its official name is Govind Ballabh Pant marg. Many tourists can be seen here. During the peak season of May, June and October heavy vehicles and traffic are restricted.

Eco cave gardens

It is situated in the Mallital area of Nainital. It is famous for its musical fountain, hanging gardens and its interconnected rocky caves. It is set up to give tourists a glimpse of natural habitat of the Himalayas. Some of the popular caves are Panther cave, Tiger cave, Bat cave, Apes cave, Flying fox cave.

Snow view point

It is one of the most attractive tourist spots in Nainital. It is situated at a height of 2270 meter above the sea level. From this point all three important peaks Nanda devi, Trishul and Nanda kot of Himalayas can be seen. There is an aerial car connection between this snow view point and Mall road of Mallital which shows the beautiful view of town.

Naina devi temple

Naina devi temple is one of the Shakti peeth located across India. It is located on the northern shores of Naina lake. It is considered as one of the renowned places of Hindu worship. According to Hindu mythology it is considered that this temple is constructed at same spot where eyes of Sati fall on the earth. Devotees from all parts of the country flock to this region and especially temple, in huge numbers all year around.

Tiffin Top

Tiffin top or Dorothy’s  seat is a very popular tourist attraction of Nainital. It is situated in Ayarpatta hills of Himachal Pradesh. At Tiffin top activities like rapelling and rock climbing are conducted. It is surrounded by trees of Cher, Oak and Deodar. It is a popular picnic spot for travellers and favourite place for photographers and nature lovers.

Best time to visit Nainital

There is pleasant weather throughout the year in Nainital. But the winter is very cold. During the month of January to March there is always  snowfall. The climate is regulated by the lake which showers rain almost every afternoon. The best time to visit Nainital is between April to June and September and October.

How to reach Nainital

The nearest airport is in Pantnagar, which is 65 km. away from it. Whereas the nearest railway station is Kathgodam, which is around 35 km. away from Nainital. So it is better to go to Nainital is by road.

Since we all know that Nainital is a famous hill station of India, people from all over the country visit here in large number. It has a variety of cuisines from North Indian to Italian, Chinese, Continental, Thai , Tibetan and local cuisines of Uttrakhand are available.
